Description
Plagianthus divaricatus, commonly known as swamp maire or white maire, is a small to medium-sized tree native to New Zealand. It typically grows in wetlands, coastal forests, and river margins, reaching up to 10 meters tall. The tree has spreading, crooked branches and glossy, dark green leaves with a pointed tip. In late spring and summer, it produces small, creamy-white flowers that attract native pollinators. These are followed by small, fleshy fruits. Plagianthus divaricatus is important for habitat restoration, providing shelter and food for native birds. Its wood is dense and durable, though the tree is relatively rare and protected in some regions.
