Description
Pittosporum eugenoides, commonly known as white maire or white mapou, is a small evergreen tree native to New Zealand. It typically grows in forested regions and can reach up to 10 meters in height. The tree has glossy, dark green leaves with a distinctive, aromatic scent when crushed. It produces small, creamy-white flowers that bloom in spring, followed by fleshy, orange fruits. White maire is valued for its dense, hard wood, historically used by Māori for carving and making tools. Pittosporum eugenoides also plays an important ecological role, providing habitat and food for native wildlife.
