Description
Hoheria populnea, commonly known as lacebark, is a fast-growing, evergreen tree native to New Zealand, reaching up to 10 meters in height. It thrives in coastal and lowland forests and features glossy, serrated, dark green leaves. In late summer and autumn, it produces masses of small, fragrant, white flowers that attract bees and other pollinators. The bark is fibrous and was traditionally used by Māori for weaving and cordage. Hoheria populnea is valued for its ornamental appeal, resilience, and ability to provide shelter and food for native wildlife. It is commonly planted in gardens, hedges, and ecological restoration projects.
