Description
Didymocheton Spectabilis, commonly known as kohekohe, is a fast-growing, evergreen tree native to New Zealand, reaching up to 15 meters in height. It thrives in coastal and lowland forests, featuring glossy, dark green, pinnate leaves. In winter, it produces clusters of small, fragrant, greenish-white flowers that emerge directly from the trunk and branches, attracting nectar-feeding birds. These are followed by woody seed capsules that split open to reveal bright orange seeds. Didymocheton Spectabilis is valued for its timber, traditional Māori medicinal uses, and ecological role in providing habitat and food for native wildlife. It prefers sheltered, moist environments.
